Well, after 83 MIllion shares change hands today, the stock closes at 1.65 - no gain at all from yesterday's close.
I guess it's better than it going down ...

Reviving this thread - ETFC at $1.85 right now on a ridiculous 291,000,000 shares traded. Wow, that is a lot of volume!

Out of ETFC at $1.83 with a few minutes left in the day. In for 3000 shares at $1.75, so I made $240 (+4.6%).

Looking at options volume today with calls outweighing by an enormous margin, (perhaps additional buying by shorts just in case), i am guessing next week we will see 2.00 on this one. I went in yesterday around the same, 1.75 mark...so holding to see what happens next week...

If that's true, I'll feel a small regret, but I did exit with a profit so all is not bad.

Most of us here using SF are more tecnically oriented than looking for the story stocks and fundamentals, however ETFC has several compelling reasons that could cause the stock to go up significantly. All you have to do is piece together some of what has already been announced along with the possible things that could happen.
1. Citadel, a hedge fund is a major sharelholder. They had filed to sell shares. They made it known that they did not sell any shares and do not plan to sell any. They said it would not be in their best interest or to the shareholders to do so. Since they are in ther game to make money, I think there is something that they know or are planning to do.
2. Everyone has talked about the enormous amount of shorts out there and the squeeze could happen any time one of these other reasons to buy comes to fruition.
3. ETFC's core business is making money and their mortgage fiasco is old news.
4. Consolidation in this industry is probably going to happen. All it takes for the stock to go up is popular belief that they are a takeover target at a specific time.Again this also could get the shorts covering.

Should be no surprise to me - ETFC up to $1.94 right now. Still OK with taking a profit early.
