I use the basic Muddy/Hg type filters. But, based on "hits" / "reads" in the public filter section it seems that there may be a silent majority on SF who may use ie: rsi(14), macd(12,26,9) stoch(x,x) etc...
I like Muddy/HG at short term market bottoms/reversals but I dont do so well with these filters as the uptrend takes hold. It seems to me that the number of picks and winning % drop as the market advances. What filters are beginning to do well, say, 8 - 10 days into an uptrend ?

I've notice that RSI(2) is being talked about like some newly discovered holy grail, yet I still can't figure out what it's all about. All I see are chaotic lines that bounce with every slight move by the underlying stock.

nikoschopen, if you prefer to buy stock and sell it in a week or more then rsi(2)<1 is really useless for you, rsi(2)<1 is for those who hold stock 1-2 day, not more.... you may try "weekly rsi(2) below 1", may be it's better for you

My holding time is anywhere from 5-min to 5-days, and I mostly use intraday charts when trading short duration. Having traded under the aegis of RSI with poor results, I'm rather sceptical that money can be made using this approach. *LOL* I suppose what you're trying to do is to buy the oversold & sell the overbought conditions -- a classic example of calling the top & bottom. I would like to know, however, what your entry setup is. Considering that your holding period is under 2.1 days, do you merely jump in at the open? Above all, what's the criteria for an exit? As opposed to all the fancy tales of good (back)test results, I wonder what the success rate of this filter is in real life?

shelupinin,
PRICE 1 DAY AGO HAS BEEN DECREASING FOR THE LAST 3 DAYS AND PRICE 1 DAY AGO TOUCHED LOWER BOLLINGER BAND(20) AND CLOSE > OPEN AND CLOSE < 4% ABOVE CLOSE 1 DAY AGO AND AVG VOL(90) > 300000 AND PRICE > 3
RSI(2) 1 DAY AGO < 1 AND AND CLOSE > OPEN AND CLOSE < 4% ABOVE CLOSE 1 DAY AGO AND PRICE > 3 AND AVG VOL(90) > 300000
sorry, nothing new here. I add the info below to see the volatility for both filters and bb width(for the Muddy)
add column cema(vola,90)
set{x,bollinger diff(20)}
set{y,x*100}
set{half_bb_width,.5*y}
add column half_bb_width
add column rsi(2)
add column cema(vola,90)
add column cema(vola,3)
/* SHOW OR SET SET DESIRED MA(90) OF DAILY % CHANGE. QQQQ APROX .6 */
/*and cema(vola,90) between 1.5 and 3*/
/* SET DECENT PROFIT % IF GETS HALFWAY TO UPPER BB */
/*half_bb_width > 7*/
nikoschopen,
Thread 5/16/2005 by "Wallman" is the Muddy method and thread 7/14/2005 is the rsi(2) < 1 method by "Rumpled One". There is discussion of how people might trade them in the threads.
