We all use indicators but most of the time the default values aren't ideal for our trading style. Please list your favorite indicators with the values and your trading style - time frame. ;)

Well, my preferences have changed a bit recently...
Currently my chart set-up is as follows:
MOVING AVERAGES:
DMA(3,3) -> this is a 3 period MA Displaced (ie. advanced) 3 periods
EMA(10)
EMA(30)
EMA(150)
INDICATORS:
ROC(2)
Price Oscillator(3,10,16) -> obviously similar to a MACD
CCI(10)
CCI(30)
-----------------------
That's it for me !
Time frame is short...mostly 3 to 5 day swings or scalps of a shorter duration !

Here's my minimalist version:
EMA(7)
EMA(17)
Displaced EMA(7,5) //yes, I too use the displaced MA but, unlike everyone else, I like mine to be projected into the future rather than the past. It strikes me as odd that only negative parameters can be used for this indicator.
Forecast Oscillator (17,7)
Slow Stochastic(7,3)
Slow Stochastic(39,1)
On a passing note, I've made a startling discovery a few months ago about an indicator called TRIX that I'm still fiddling with. Its specific usage and the accompanying parameters can be found in another thread called "Silly Rabbit ! TRIX is definitely NOT for kids !!!"

Alf,
Sometimes I fear that you'll drown ureself in ure own fanfare! ;)
You always had my kudos to ure otherwise "lead 'em" attitude, but sometimes it's preferable to be led. It can bring you respect. And, ah yes, the "silly" rabbit definitely did make it out of the hat (but, as always, at the most inopportune time). But I'm talking silly.

I don't understand how you could possibly add positive parameters as that would require predicting the future would it not?

Just a small note, alf.. in my primary school days, they used to tell us that 33 / 3 = 11 ... :) I.e., NOT 33.3

Uhhh...in a word...NO !
You are simply "ADVANCING" the "VALUE" of an "X period MA"..."X days ahead to today's date."

EXAMPLE:
A DMA(3,3) -> which is what I use...is a 3 period Moving Average...advanced 3 days !!!
Here's how it is calculated...
First, you need 6 days of Closing data...
Let's say the last 6 days Closing Prices are...
Day 6 (5 days ago) -> $10 |
Day 5 (4 days ago) -> $11 | --> 10+11+12 = 33 divided by 3 = 11
Day 4 (3 days ago) -> $12 |
Day 3 (2 days ago) -> $13
Day 2 (1 day ago) --> $14
Day 1 (today) ------> $15 ----> that 11 value then gets advanced 3 days and plotted TODAY...and so on...and so on !!!

There's nothing magical about it !
Like ANY indicator...it doesn't PREDICT anything !
It does however provide a very nice VISUAL indicator of short-term trend !

Hello glm47,
By displacing it forward in time (or advancing as Alfie stated), it certainly doesn't mean that it can "predict" the future. Ure merely shifting the moving average x-number of periods to the right of today's price.
