When you write a filter...
WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO?
There are around 10,000 stocks.
Some will go up today and some will go down.
WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO?
Write a filter that will tell you which stocks are going to go up today?
Or perhaps write a filter that will tell you which stocks are going to go down today?
IS THAT YOUR APPROACH?
WHAT IS THE REASON YOU ARE GOING ABOUT IT THAT WAY?
Are you looking to hit a home run everyday or just grind out a few singles?
WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO?

Home runs are few so I don't focus on it. I think of myself as a blue collar trader, I will grind it out, take the singles and even take out the trash ...lol.

When my analysis indicates the SPX is bottoming/uptrending on a weekly basis my filter finds optionable stocks which are not only uptrending but have been in an acceleration phase and are now pulling back at the same time the SPX is. When I get a buy signal on the stock I buy an ITM call option 2-3 months out and look to hold as long as the acceleration phase lasts and/or the SPX looks to be turning the opposite direction on a weekly basis. I buy ITM puts when the SPX is topping/downtrending.

What you told me last time was great
My program is
Close is above 12.00 and average volume(30) is above 250000
EMA(26) 5 days ago crossed above MA(50) 5 days ago
close above MA(50)
MA(50) above MA(50) 5 days ago
and add column MA(50) (MA50)
That got me 2 responses
Symbol Last %Chg Vol MA(50) analysis Chart
HRH 45.55 0.60 526600 43.63 historical 3m, 6m, 1y, 2y
STP 47.81 2.82 4685000 36.95 historical 3m, 6m, 1y, 2y
I can use the above!!! The only number I don't have is MA(50) 5 days ago. I know the MA(50) is for the last day. The STP line shows that the MA(50) is the last one because graph shows it way above the MA(50) 5 days ago.
I don't know if this will do anything for my bottom line. I just think it will and of course I can test the program before use.
AGAIN Thank you. If you want to test it just copy the program.

I run a list of around 12 symbols (actually ETFs, Ultra ETFs & Ultra Inverse ETFs) through the same boring "scan" EVERY day...
...the scan doesn't eliminate ANY of the 12 symbols...rather...it identifies (with column info) any that are showing particular price patterns (and some other stuff) that I like to watch for...in other words...I don't scan for symbols...I scan for patterns that may exist within a small list of symbols...
...no Oscillator signals...
...no OB / OS...
...no MA crosses...
...the "other stuff" mentioned above...helps me determine a "daily bias"...possible "entry / exit" points (prices)..etc...
...it's more a daily "worksheet"...than a "filter"...it's on my screen ALL day...and I refer to it throughout the trading day.
~edit~ Let me say...doesn't mean I don't use Oscillators, MAs and Technical Indicators in my chart analysis...I definately DO...just not as part of the "scan/filter". fwiw

how do you code volume by price to draw on a chart?
...it would be nice to be able to SEE the price pattern....
