I am using the phrase
and average volume above 100000
but my results are showing many stocks below that, even 400 shares

Try using "average volume(XX) above 100000" where XX is the number of days.
SF does not know how long to average unless you tell it.

Kevin, am using "and average volume(90) is above 100000" in my Global Filter. Global Filter is on. Still getting numerous results below 100000.

Try turning your global filter off and just use [ and average volume(90) is above 100000 ] in your filter.

Kevin, understand they are not the same, BUT I am asking for average volume (90) over 100000 and getting stocks or ETF's with volume at 400, and many others under 10000. That's very unlikely to me if the average volume 90 is over 100000. To me the filter is not working or my wording is incorrect. I do seem to have the trouble more with the Global filter than when I put it in the filter itself.

if you want a daily volume of at least 100000 (note - NOT an average, but a daily minimum) you can try the following:
This will stringently enforce a minimum volume for every one of the past 20 days

++++++++++++++++
Two things come to mind:
1. Volume is reported with a 20 minute delay. If you are asking in the morning, it only reports volume UP TO THAT POINT, which will be well below the daily average.
2. Add "add column average volume(90)" to your filter. If your filter is working correctly, all of the results should have this above 100000.
