I think these old sayings are no longer viable.
With commission free trading and the
explosion of retail traders, there is just
too much money to be made by institutions.

I make a bullish and bearish filter on all of my
favorite setups.
Being able to trade options is key. No matter
what the markets are doing, I have a trade.
Playing the downturns with options is most times
more profitable than the upturns.

Still in downtrend.
Means don't try to be Bullish on stocks as there is across the board pressure on stocks.
Play inverse etf's if you must. As far as options I haven't the first clue about them.
I just know when the markets are downtrending it puts overall pressure on all stocks.
Like don't try to catch falling knives.
