I'm a swing trader (daily charts) so I'm waiting for SPY to make an hourly downclose on decent volume at which time I'll buy a put on the SPY and also on either ABK or MTG.

Luckily, the price retraced to practically where I entered, so to minimize any needless risk I've taken on a long position in the Dow futures. The daily chart looks 50/50 at the moment. If we were to close right now, it would be bullish; if we were to go down and close near the bottom, it would be bearish. Frankly, however, I hate pair trading.

MBIA, Ambac shares bounce on MBIA execs' comments

Reuters
Thu Jan 31, 2008 11:57am

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Shares of top bond insurers MBIA Inc (MBI.N: Quote, Profile, Research) and Ambac Financial Group Inc (ABK.N: Quote, Profile, Research) rose on Wednesday, recovering from an initial drop, after comments from MBIA executives offered some reassurance about the state of the bond insurance sector.

Investors have been on edge due to fears the insurers could have their credit ratings downgraded.

MBIA shares were up 5.3 percent at $14.72 on the New York Stock Exchange, while those of Ambac gained 11.4 percent to $12.08.

In a conference call with analysts MBIA Chief Executive Gary Dunton said MBIA is in the best position to maintain Triple-A ratings among public bond insurers.
I suppose we traders need to get our dunce cap on and start dancing to the tune of their lies.
