only buy stocks when the general market is rising, hold cash in sideways markets, and sell short when the market is falling

I could do 1 better. Look at Sh on the monthly SMA 21 using candles. Wait until the candle closes above or below Sma21 for the month, and that's the trend. I worked this out years ago. Caught 2009 almost flawlessly, and market has stayed bullish ever since.

Four: Help please.
When you state. "I use a 100 and 150 day moving average to define the long term trend ", what symbol(s) do you compute the "100 and 150 day moving average" on?

Respectfully, what rules/guidelines do you have for applying the results of the determination of long and short term trend?

Thank you,
Steve Mc

Hi SFM,

If you revisit the original post from yesterday, you will see the following address listed:
http://www.chartingtrends.com/

I "bumped into the site the other day" and hoped someone may be able to find something of value.

The strategy is his and not mine.

Strangely enough, SMA21 only works with inverse efts like Sh, but not SPY. It even does well with oil using DDG. You can add SMA2 also which works great. you can also go weekly, which will get you out quicker but may see more whipsaws but not that many. Maybe a 14 timeframe would be better.
