THE MOST OBVIOUS THING TO ME RIGHT NOW IS THIS ....
The MOST PROFITABLE plays would've been to SELL the calls (not buy the puts).
We're 5 minutes into the open and the calls have dropped exponentially.
The puts are lagging.

True.
In fact, if you'd bought a CALL yesterday at the close, you'd want to go long at the open to salvage some of your loss.
TO BE HONEST .... (for the benefit of the board)

I bought a Nov $40 call at the close for $3.25.
At the open, it was worth $1.14.
So, clearly, to salvage some of that loss, it would've been wise to go long (as U said) @ $35.++ and catch a 0.50 move on the upside.

Guess what's DOWN the most? ( the most profitable from the "sellers" point of view)
The AIG OTM calls.
So, the BEST strategy is to SELL the OTM calls (below the current stock price).
For example, you could've sold the Nov $30 calls yesterday for $1000, and bought 'em back today for $600, pocketing the $400 difference.

American Intl AIG 2.85 a 1.98 -3.42
$2.85 is the ACTUAL
$1.98 was the estimate?
So, WTF???
Why did it go DOWN?
