It's unfortunate that you never bothered to grab all of Graham's book when it was available way back in July. At any rate, speaking of buying cheap and selling dear, I'm thinking of scooping up some home-builder stocks that are battered beyond their shelf life (or so it seems). What's ure thought on that?

Maybe in another year or so Ill give homebuilders a serious look, now no way. That would even be less prudent than your CROX short.

Yeah, prudence is never my cup of tea, especially when a stock is riding on the strength of childish fads (just witness all the garbage stocks touted as the next best thing to ??? in the aftermath of the internet bubble).
Be that as it may, it looks to me that the housing sector is very close to bottoming out--at least from a technical point of view. The data for housing starts and building permits will be released tomorrow, so we'll just have to wait and see.

...and speaking of "prudent"...
...I well remember in the months subsequent to 9-11...American Airlines (AMR) sat @ around a buck and change.
They were on the brink of bankruptcy !
The employees were about to strike !
The biggest air carrier in the country looked like it might just "go away" !
---------------------------------
Well...needless to say...it didn't go away...far from it !
A mere $20K invested in AMR then (in 2003)...would NOW be worth about $470K !
That's about a 2400% profit ! fwiw
If ONLY I hadn't been so "prudent"...I could have made "life changing profits" !

It's always easy after the fact! Would you have held onto it that long? Would you have taken profits prematurely..then because of your massive gain rolled it into another speculative play and lost a significant portion of it? What if you would have bought CSCO in 1990 at .26 cents a share? 470K is hardly life changing it's half a years work!
