In 'Bollinger on Boll. Bands', he talks about the W pattern. Would appreciate a jump-start on writing a filter for this. Something about closing price 2 days ago above the second low of the W pattern, etc. I would also use BandWidth lowest in 6 months.
The Forum search wasn't helpful.
Appreciate your help.
Sid

By W-patterns, Bollinger largely meant double-bottom formations (refer to p. 94 for various patterns). However, the definition of a W-pattern is so broad that it leaves considerable latitude in how it should properly be interpreted. By definition, a double-bottom formation occurs when the second low matches the first low. In a W-pattern, on the other hand, the second low can be either above or below the first low as long as it's within the lower Bollinger band while the first is outside the band.

Without any doubt Bollinger bands can be a very effective tool, but in themselves their effectiveness are somewhat limited. I would only consider using them in conjuction with the Keltner channel, which in my opinion brings added benefit to Bollinger bands. Since I'm also very interested in Bollinger bands, I look forward to exchanging any fresh insight into using this indicator.

I'll get back to you with regards to ure requested filters. But, first, show us what you have written thus far.

Appreciate your response. I have not started writing a filter for this, at least, as yet.
What I will play with from Bollinger's bk is:
BB(20)
BandWidth lowest in 6 mos.
MFI or Accum/Distr
MA(20)
MACD

and

BB(20)
MFI(10) >80
%b >0.8

I'm rather new at this filter business.

It's difficult to fathom what you're exactly looking for unless you provide some specific details. Needless to say, there are countless ways to play the Bollinger bands. By what you have written, it appears that you're looking for a certain pattern. If so, be sure to provide the name of the stock and the dates on which the pattern occured (or better yet just upload the screenie of the chart to any one of the public image hosting servers, eg. imagevenue.com). I apologize for not offering much help as I'm slowly recovering from a subliminal constipation that has plagued me of late. Some people prefer to call it six-sigma postmortem menopause.

Ure quite welcome. I should note that there are very knowledgeable ppl on this board beside myself who display high flair for serving the needs of others, so fire away those questions to arouse their ungainly passion. LOL

If you have any question with regards to the Bollinger Bands in general or how BB may be used as a trading system, I'll be happy to discuss that in details as well.

Thnx, I'll gladly take you up on your generous offer.

These are 2 new filters that generate a lot of green arrows on the 'historical' charts. No personal results yet; I've been in cash until there is a mkt turnaround.

fetcher[
draw Bollinger Band(20)
and draw MFI(10) between 50 and 80
and draw Bollinger %B between 0.5 and 0.8
and average volume(50) is above 100,000
and close is between 5 and 25
and draw ma(20)
and close is above ma(40)

HOW DO I SET THE FILTERS SO IT TURNS BLUE? WHERE DO I FIND THE MAGNIFYING GLASS?
I'LL RE-SEND THE FILTERS, SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO TYPE THEM.

fetcher[
Show stocks where FI(13) has been increasing for 3 days and ema(13) has been decreasing for 3 days
and drsw ema(13)
and and price touches ema(13) 1 day ago
and price is between 5 and 25
and average volume(50) is above 100,000
and draw Bollinger Band(20)

Thnx, Sid

You needed a "]" at the end of your filter code.
