I figured that it might be worth delineating the intra-Day alerts from those which are based on After Hours trades.
Will look at volume greater than ~100,000 as a screen:

You take those larger gainers in A/H and they don't hit those highs in P/M they make deadly shorts.
That's the Truth!

And vice-versa. AIG was down 40 cents A/H last night and up 61 cents above last night's A/H at 8:45AM today and made 8.48%.
CBE A/H last night was up $.10 at $35.08, then at 8:45AM down $.12 at $34.96 then up that $.12 to $35.08 at 9:23AM. Opened at $35.05 on volume that was 33% A/H of yesterday's intraday volume. So, despite P/M fluctuations, the A/H data was good.
I've started intensive tracking A/H and P/M data but only for 3 days. So far, way too little tracking time for conclusions yet, except that I've learned to check pre-market data even if it's as early as 8:45AM. Did you just say "Duh!"?

FWIW, was browsing through the AH volume info on Marketwatch, noticed the following having relatively high vol relative to their typical vol. Looked at their charts, they seem to be breaking out or trying to.
EGT, LVS, DNDN, NCOC
Using a diff filter, these had hi vol days today - MYRX, IKAN, KERX, BTN.
MYRX starting to breakout, recently spun off from Myriad Genetics, presented last Friday at a Rodman and Renshaw conf in NY. Perhaps investors liked what they heard.
IKAN, KERX, BTN look maybe ready to break out.
Will try to follow their progress tomorrow. One of these might be worth catching a ride.
