Friday's Big Option Volume Spotlight - Hortonworks (HDP)
I've never heard of this company so it was a surprise when I saw a $692K trade consisting of 4194 5/18/18 25 Calls at $1.65 with stock at $21.26. Option volume was 10 times its 90-day avg and its total option Calls vs Puts was 100-0, which is almost unheard of!
This play is almost guaranteed to be an earnings play as it scheduled to report by mid Feb. Going out in May gives you enough time to recover if it plunges on earnings day. Break even is $26.65 which is 25% away from its closing price of $21.34. My favorite trend indicator is the R-Square & HDP weekly 52 week R-Square is 0.95 which is an exceptionally strong trend. Another excellent indicator of what investors think is the order sentiment which was 100% on Friday, easily above its 30-day avg of 72%.
For now everything is lining up for Hortonworks to provide fireworks for bulls!

@mahkoh and @15minofpham..
Thank you; I spotted the "spread" under the condition column and If i understand this correctly, it is not directly correlated to clarity in direction.
RE: MAR and HDP
Is there a reason why MAR and HDP are considered as plays given that AT or LYG may have a higher unusual relative volume?
Thanks in advance for your response.

AT chart is really choppy and if you look under Trades, there isn't one big trade where its premium dwarfs the rest. Most of LYG trades are at Bid or Mid.

TER, Someone earlier bought 1mil of the 16feb 47 Calls @1.10. I saw it and it was around 1.50 so put order in @ 1.45 never got filled as it rocketed up to almost $2. It closed at$1.60 so depending on how the market looks tomorrow I may buy a little.

Big Option Play of the Day - EXEL
A premium of $8.3 million of 10,000 5/18 24 Call for $8.30 was bought when stock was at $30.54. Ask was $8.40 suggesting this is a fresh buy. OI should confirm tomorrow. Break even of $32.30 would bring it up to resistance. Its weekly 52 week R-Square is .68 so its nothing to write home about. Earnings is in late February so this might be the catalyst to create new 52 week high. This big block purchase helped its total Calls vs Puts volume to 90%-10%, but its order sentiment of 45% is well below its 30-day avg of 77%.
If OI confirm it's a fresh buy, then my buy point is $30.75.

Something wicked this way comes for Gold Miners? There were a total of 6000+ 2/16 39 Calls going between .05-.10 when stock was around $21.30. Someone thinks something will happen fast as this expires next month!

Big Option Volume Play of the Day - AKS
A premium of $603,900 was spent on 18,300 2/16 7 Calls for .33 when stock was at $6.42. This one purchase was more than 10 times more than the next of $58K. Its total Calls vs Puts volume was 89%-11% and its order sentiment was 88%, much higher than its 30-day avg of 73%.
Break even is $7.33 is 10.23% away from its closing price of $6.65. Weekly chart shows consolidating for three weeks so a break out is imminent. Monthly chart even look tastier as the Stochastics just crossed above 20. I LOVE these short term plays and you should too!
Yesterday's spotlight - EXEL
OI did confirm the 10,000 5/18 24 Calls for $8.30 were bought when stock was at $30.54 was indeed a fresh buy. Even the big players don't see their successes right away as EXEL took a -7.28% tumble today which in turn dropped the Calls to $5.80, a -30.12% day. This will give the retail buyer a great opportunity to enter at a sale price. A good buy point might be once it crosses above the daily 50 MA which is currently $27.71.
